When you register we store your email address, your member name and a hashed copy of your password. We never store the password itself and we cannot read it. Registration also stores the security question and answer you pick, so you can prove the account is yours.
Your profile holds whatever you choose to put in it. All of those are optional and all of them are public. Leave them blank if you would rather not say.
Everything you post is stored: forum topics and replies, comments, blog and devlog entries, wiki edits and their full revision history, submitted links, reviews, shoutbox messages, poll votes, uploaded files and images, and private messages. We also keep your karma score, your post count, the date you joined and the last time you were seen.

Our server records your IP address when something goes wrong, so we can work out what broke and so we can deal with spam and abuse from bots and AI. These records are kept only as long as they are useful and we do not use it to build a profile of you.
Your IP address is also used to stop the fraud on the view and vote counters. It is used as a short-lived hash and is not stored against your account.

We set a session cookie so the site knows you are logged in. If you tick the box to stay signed in we set a second cookie that lasts two weeks. There is also a CSRF cookie that protects our forms from being submitted by other sites.
That's it, no advertising cookies, no tracking crap and no third parties. No greedy pigs sallivating over your data.

Your member name, profile, posts, uploads and karma are public. Anyone can read them, including search engines.
Your email address is not shown on the site. Staff can see it in the administration panel.
Private messages are private between sender and recipient. The exception is a message that gets reported: staff can then read that message in order to act on the report. The same goes for reported posts.
If you run a hosted site here, everything you publish on it is public, and the members of staff who look after hosting can see its settings and stuff.

We email you only about your account, like the link you get when you forget your password. We do not send marketing. We do not sell, rent or send your email address to anybody.
Mail leaves this site through a mail server we own.
|

We keep your account and your content for as long as the account exists.
You can change or empty most of your profile yourself from the control panel at any time. To see everything we hold about you, to correct it, or to have your account closed, email the staff and we will sort it out.
Closing an account removes it from the member list and stops it being used to sign in. Posts, topics and wiki revisions you contributed stay where they are, because removing them would gut conversations other people took part in. If you need something you wrote taken down as well, say so and we will deal with it case by case.
